Name James Troy Birth 1838 Tipperary Ireland
- James Troy came to Australia from Ireland in 1852 by the ship "Lady Elgin" landed in Melbourne and engaged in pastoral pursuit at Colac acquiring land and carrying on dairying and mixed farming.
James and his wife travelled frm Colac in a tilted wagon in 1879. In 1880 he settled in Kerang and bought his wife and family of six children by tilted waggon from Colac. The land selection was all unfenced open country when taken up and much requiring pioneering work had to be done before the holding was placed on a profitable footing.
James Troy dies in 1884 leaving his widow with a family of eight children the youngest a year old and the oldest 14.
Mrs Troy with the assistance of her children carried on farming under great difficulties.However she carried on with the assistance of Cornelius and James Hickey having placed her family in a good position on the land, Mrs Troy passed away in 1914 at the age of 69.
Mr J A Troy , son after being educated at the local school joined his mother o the farm property comprised of 320 acres of agriculture land and 50 acres of lucerne, praactically all irrigagable.J A Troy was elected a member of the Kerang Shire in 116 and served for 6 years.
He married Miss Hannah Power of Greymont, New zealand and there is a family of one son James and one daughter Patricia.

John Troy married 1833? his wife Mary (nee Maher) and their family of 5 children left Nenagh County Tipperary Ireland and ailed from Plymouth aboard the “Lady Elgin “ on the 17.12.1851 arriving at Hobson’s Ba, Victoria 29.03.1952. The journey took 103 days.
The shipping records indicate John’s calling as a butcher and listed to be employed by Michael Eadn, Moonee Ponds from the 31st for a period of 6 months and wage of 140?

John and Mary ages listed as 39 and 36 respectively.
An entry from Victoria and it’s Metropolis -Past and Present- Following- The family first went to Mr Charles Beal’s at Gellibrand for 12 months then moved to Mr John Calvert’s near Colac where they stated for almost 4 years.
They then rented a house from John Calvert and carried on dairy farming for 3 years until the Land Act came into force and John Troy selected 160 acres which he farmed until his death in 1862.
After John's death his wife Mary and children, Michael. Cornelius, James and Anna( (hannora) were beneficiaries. The sons continued to work the farm in company for a time. Michael Troy remained at the homestead and was living there when this volume published.
Beeac about 10 miles from Colac was founded about 1860 but before that it had been known as Ondit as the townand was situated near Lake Ondit. The Troy family came to Beeac in 1853.
On John's death certificate his father is listed as Cornelius and mother as Mary O'Brien dated 1862.

In 1880 he settled in Kerang on land selected by him two years previously , to which he bought his wife and family of 6 children by tilted waggon from Colac. James died in 1884 leaving aa widow and 8 children. Mrs (mn Commerford) Troy continued to farm the land with the assistance of his brother Cornelius Troy and a James Hickey setting up the Murrabit & Benjernoop Water trust irrigation.
The Troy family have long been associated with the farming interests of Victoria and is one of the oldest families in Kerang, Victoria Australia.
