      John Troy married 1833? his wife Mary (nee Maher) and their family of 5 children left Nenagh County Tipperary Ireland and ailed from Plymouth aboard the “Lady Elgin “ on the 17.12.1851 arriving at Hobson’s Ba, Victoria 29.03.1952. The journey took 103 days.

      The shipping records indicate John’s calling as a butcher and listed to be employed by Michael Eadn, Moonee Ponds from the 31st for a period of 6 months and wage of 140?

      An entry from Victoria and it’s Metropolis -Past and Present- Following- The family first went to Mr Charles Beal’s at Gellibrand for 12 months then moved to Mr John Calvert’s near Colac where they stated for almost 4 years.

      They then rented a house from John Calvert and carried on dairy farming for 3 years until the Land Act came into force and John Troy selected 160 acres which he farmed until his death in 1862.

      After John's death his wife Mary and children, Michael. Cornelius, James and Anna( (hannora) were beneficiaries. The sons continued to work the farm in company for a time. Michael Troy remained at the homestead and was living there when this volume published.

      Beeac about 10 miles from Colac was founded about 1860 but before that it had been known as Ondit as the townand was situated near Lake Ondit. The Troy family came to Beeac in 1853.

      On John's death certificate his father is listed as Cornelius and mother as Mary O'Brien dated 1862.
