    • Joseph was born in Berton, England in 1822 and Hanna was born 1825 and died in 1910. Joseph Married at Grantham Lincolnshire England 184? -1851) a Hanna Pidd. They set sail for Australia from England-South Hampton in 1853 with son William.They first arrived in Adelaide from the ship "Magdelena"on 26.08.1853.And then crossed states to Victoria and settled in the area of Casterton. Over time , their son William grew up to read and write and in 1875, William married Mary Murray Hallam (daughter of David and Margaret) and had the first white child at the Muntham sheep station. Joseph and hanna continued to farm for the rest of their life.

      98. Joseph Hallam was born on 16 Jun 1822 in Burton, Leicestershire, England, died on 8 Jun 1909 in Horsham, Victoria, Australia at age 86, and was buried in Horsham, Victoria, Australia.

      General Notes: Joseph and Hannah arrived with children Henry (6), Maria Ann (4) & William (1) at Adelaide on the 26th of August 1853 on the ship "Magdalena". Henry and Maria Ann's last name was Northridge as they were Hannah's children from her previous marriage.

      From South Australia, the Hallam's travelled to Ballarat in Victoria. During the journey Henry Northridge was left to help another traveller drive a horse and cart and has not been heard of since. Also on the journey Hannah was badly burnt at a campfire, her clothes caught alight she tried to put it out with her hand, resulting in a withered arm.
      At some later stage they lived in teh Wonwondah area.

    • Hanna Pidd was born on 22nd May 1825 in Little Ponton , Lincolnshire. She married Henry Northridge and they had two children together Henry b 1847 and Maria Ann b 1849. It's understood that Henry Northridge deceased, circumstances unknown.

      Hanna then married Joseph Henry Hallam. Joseph and Hanna arrived in Adelaide, they bought with them Henry age 6. Maria Ann aged 4 and William aged 2 years.

      They sailed from South Hampton on board the "Magdalena". The Shipping records show the children's name of Hallam. Joseph and Hanna arrived in Adelaide on the 26th August 1853, Henry was 6, Maria Ann 4 and William 2. The family lived in Adelaide area for about 7 years before travelling overland to Bunganee, ear Ballarat, leaving Henry aged 13 in Adelaide with a wagon and a team of horses.

      It Shows that the first issue of Joseph and Hanna was William born 1851. They had eight children together. Hanna died 20th October 1910 in Korumburra, Victoria having lived 85 years.

    • Joseph b 1823 d. 08.06.1909 sailed for Australia aboard the "Magdalena" from South Hampton & arrived in Adelaide on the 26.08.1853. He was accompanied by his wife Hannah Pidd-Pede born 1825 d 22.10.1910, 88 years of age.

      They had three children. Henry (Northridge), Maria Ann(Northridge) and William Hallam. ( Hannah married previously a Mr Northridge on the 25 Oct 1847 in the Parish of Spittlegate. We believe they had two children. Henry was born 1847 and Maria Ann born in 1849. It is unclear what happened to Mr Northridge, deceased it is thought. Hanna then married Joseph Hallam.

      The shipping log of Joseph and Hanna shows Joseph's occupation as a Labourer accompanied with Henry & Maria Ann as Hallam.

      The family lived in the Adelaide area for about seven years before travelling overland to Bungaree, near Ballarat Victoria, leaving henry aged 13 in Adelaide with a wagon and a team of horses.

      Joseph died at Horsham on the 8th June 1909 and is buried at the Horsham Cemetery. Descendants of Joseph erected a headstone.
